A glamourous grid girl posted an update from hospital showing her nasty injuries after she fell off the pitwall fence celebrating at the chequered flag. Sophie Wright ended the weekend in hospital after she suffered a horror fall at Brands Hatch whilst celebrating at a British Tour Car Championship race. Wright, is a presenter, writer and DJ as well as a grid girl for BTCC races with driver Stephen Jelley and West Surrey Racing.Grid girls and pit girls were banned in Formula 1 before the 2018 season, but some fans may be surprised to see they are still present in other motorsport categories. However, Sophie proved that the role of a grid girl doesn’t come without risk of injury.While celebrating a podium finish for Jelley and victory by Jake Hill for her team WSR, Wright took part in the pitwall celebrations that saw team members from the 16-time BTCC champions climb to overhang the track and celebrate with the driver as they crossed the line. But in a freak accident, Sophie fell awkwardly and broke her femur, the thigh bone, needing morphine to reduce the pain.She took to social media on Tuesday to provide an update on her condition to her fans and worried onlookers. Sophie posted a picture of her on the grid before the race, climbing onto the pitwall fence and her laying in her hospital bed with her left leg in a cast all the way up from her toes.Writing on Twitter, Sophie said: “HOW IT STARTED vs HOW IT’S GOING… Pole position- changed into trainers- climbed pit wall to celebrate win- fell off pitwall- broken femur- lots of morphine. And most importantly lots of AMAZING medics, mechanics, crew, team members, friends, Marshals! Love u guys xx.”Sophie’s WSR team also posted a tribute to their stricken team member on social media, writing: “Sadly @DJSoWright, one of our awesome #BTCC grid team, had an accident in pitlane while celebrating our season-ending win yesterday.
